Choosing to fight or to love?

Despite the fact that babies come out of the womb screaming for dear life as if they already “just cannot” deal with what they are about to endure, it is still my belief that in our most natural, purest form we are just one simple thing- love. Nothing else. Despite the fact that our human complexities say otherwise. We are beings with a need and a desire for love and happiness. We crave it and even unintentionally seek it in different forms.
Although we all love, many of us do so briefly, with conditions, and in waves. Our selfishness stops our loving souls and through fear and the chaos of this world, we become harsh. We begin fighting with ourselves and others. We become the abused and at the same time, the abusers. One feels pain and then lashes it back out without a thought. And reacting simply becomes an instinct.  The cycle continues.
We are naturally such complicated beings, we can be hostile and unintentionally cruel, even from such a young age. We are fighters even before we know what the word means. We are manipulative and troublesome. We crave attention and need to feel special, and we seek attention whether it is positive or not. Our selfish natures are almost preprogrammed and some struggle more than others in finding their inner peace, making even more angry people in this already overcomplicated world.

For some, a selfless, loving nature seems to come naturally. They encompass positivity and spread it easily to others. An encounter with these people can be so special and their energy radiates so genuinely that others want to grasp on, even selfishly wanting it for ourselves.
For others, it can be quite a journey healing from past pains to reveal to themselves and the world a loving, kind, gentle soul. As if the shedding of a cocoon the person may endure a rock bottom episode which will lead them to the start of a new experience at life, and seeing life with fresh eyes.

In a world that at times can feel so cruel and heartless, where do we find that love we all truly seek? If we begin the journey of self-awareness and open our hearts up to the good and the bad, we can begin to change our thoughts, actions, and reactions. We can look at our inner workings and try to heal our personal wounds, making loving others easier because we first have learned to love ourselves. One thing this world needs is more people who love themselves. With that, more people can radiate love to others, loving others until they can learn to love themselves. And now, the cycle continues. The journey of life has its ups and downs but it is never without purpose.
